PROSPER in Luzerne County

Wyoming Valley West

Wyoming Valley West is a public school district, serving approximately 5,000 students in nine municipalities in the northeast region of Luzerne county. Our PROSPER programs include the Strengthening Families Program: for Parents and Youth 10-14 (SFP 10-14) and Botvin LifeSkills Training. Four sessions of SFP 10-14 are offered each year at the Wyoming Valley West Middle School. Wyoming Valley West targets 5th and 6th graders and their families in SFP 10-14 and Botvin LifeSkills is administered to all 7th grade students in health class. Our PROSPER team has been impacting families for 18 years. To date, Wyoming Valley West has graduated over 900 families from SFP 10-14.

The youth participate in a driving game. The object of this activity is to show that rules and responsibilities are important. Youth learn that everyone has rules and responsibilities, adults as well as young people. Youth experience that things go better for them when they follow the rules.
