PROSPER in Lackawanna County
The Riverside School District is a public school district that serves 1,516 students in grades K-12 residing in the boroughs of Taylor and Moosic in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. The district was an original control school as part of the PROSPER research project which began in 2001. Since 2015, the district has been implementing two evidence-based prevention programs: The Strengthening Families Program: for Parents and Youth 10-14 (SFP 10-14) and LifeSkills Training. SFP 10-14 is offered in the evening from 5:30 – 8:00 PM to 5th and 6th graders and their parents and caregivers. The program is held at the Riverside East Elementary School. LifeSkills Training is taught during the school day to 7th grade students.
This Riverside family is enjoying a card game and popcorn after having a family meeting. Family meetings are a great tool to help families stay on track and solve small problems together. Afterwards, families can enjoy fun time together.
The Strengthening Families Program: for Parents and Youth 10-14 starts Monday, February 24, 2020 from 5:30 PM– 8:00 PM at the Riverside East Elementary School. The program includes dinner, attendance prizes, and childcare for younger children.
LifeSkills Training is a 15-lesson curriculum taught in 7th grade. It helps students develop resistance to peer and media pressure to use substances, a positive self-image, and decision-making, problem-solving skills, and effective communication skills.
